Yeah, it is, but I'm just harping because that "where can I get a gun" post was freaky!

And, Nephro's post was beyond hilarious.

Once again I'm with Bris. It sounds crazy to me to even be talking about it.

I must've missed that post. Like I said, I didn't read the whole thread. Yeah.....asking about where to get a gun on DB doesn't fall in the 'responsible' category I'd say.

Once again I agree. How do we get to the point of discussing obtaining a gun especially illegally on a drug forum?

Generally speaking, I support the Second Amendment, however if the Mayor of Chicago or some other city or State wish to limit the free exercise of this right, well I suppose that's OK ?

I pretty much support the First Amendment, however if the Mayor of Chicago or some other city or State or web site feel that the First Amendment does not apply to the citizens of their domains, I guess that is up to them to decide ?
Words can hurt and incite violence, etc ?
Yes, Hate Speech and Dirty words can be dangerous ?
Best outlaw them ?

How many other Amendments can we restrict ?
Life would be so much simpler if we just got rid of some of those Amendments !
After all, they were written by a bunch of rich, old white men over 200 years ago and I'm sure they would be shocked by the America of today !
My God, Women voting and a Black Man as President !!
What would they think ?

Let's just shred that pesky "Bill of Rights" and be done with it ?
Whoops, I forgot. Bush, Obama and Homeland Insecurity are doing that right now ?

I hate to rip off George Will, but during the "so called" assault weapons ban debate of the early 1990's he pointed out that the best way to solve the gun debate would be "To get rid of the embarrassing Second Amendment."

I have never been sure if he was serious or simply pointing out a rather obvious fact ?

The Second Amendment has nothing whatsoever to do with hunting.
It has little to do with protecting you in your home.
It was written with a purpose, though.

"When government fears the people, there is Liberty."
"When people fear their government, there is Tyranny."

Hate to say this, but the US of A. was founded by "Militants" & "Terrorist".
They used the most advanced weapons of their day and unfair tactics of ambush & snipers to wear down and defeat the most powerful military the world had ever seen.
They did not "fight fair". They cheated, in the eyes of the British, but they won, and that's all that matters in War.
There are no points for second place in war.

As you all know, the Bill of Rights does not "Give or Grant" rights to the citizens of the USA. It "Affirms" rights that we had all along.
It is not negotiable.

The purpose of the Second Amendment is to always remind those who are elected to serve, who is really in charge in the US.

Anyone who finds the idea of armed insurrection in the US disturbing, well join the crowd.
I find it hard to imagine also, but that is the whole purpose of the Second Amendment, IMHO.

A taxi driver goes mad and drives around on a shooting rampage.
A man released from prison shoots his girl friend (or wife) and her lover and then hunts down a policeman to kill at random.
SAS special forces are brought in to hunt him down and he kills himself after a standoff.
(All this happened in the last couple of weeks in the UK.) !!
How bloody civilized ?

I read that New Zealand is considering allowing some of their police to carry guns, but the public seems opposed ?
If one wishes to escape firearms, NZ. might be your best shot ? rofl5

Public schools leave a lot to be desired, especially here in Mississippi. While I feel it is horrible that we have cut funding for physical education and the arts, there is one thing that many schools here have kept that has an obvious positive impact.

Firearm/Hunting safety is a brief seminar type course, usually taught an hour or so a day for two or three weeks in middle school. It is also usually available elsewhere for a small fee for youngsters who either do not attend a school where it is offered, or whose parents plan on taking them hunting at an even younger age.

It is incredibly rare for us to have teens committing gun violence or even accidents involving guns. The hunting culture that is prevalent in rural MS, where shooting animals is seen not only as as recreational activity, but an important part of providing food for your family, does teach respect for what a gun is actually capable of.

There are areas of our state where gun violence and crime are frequent among the young. It is the very areas where this little course is not considered a rite of passage, sort of like the "sex education" course in late elementary school (you know, the one that just teaches about the time of the month).

I am of divided allegiances on the ability of fully automatic and super high tech weaponry being available to the public. On one hand, why would you need it? On the other, do I want it available to those who might be on the other side of a confrontation, but not to defend me and mine?

As far as bad guys go, they will get what they want regardless of laws and regulations. Gun laws and restrictions only apply to those who choose to obey them.

I will keep my guns, and continue to advocate for responsible usage and ownership to be taught to those children and teens who are likely (or unlikely, for that matter) to come into contact with firearms.

I grew up in MN which is a big hunting state as well. Deer, Moose, Bear, and many Birds. Anyway when I was 12yrs old in the late 60's my Father took me to my first Gun Class to learn how to properly shoot, handle, and take care of a Rifle. It was a right of passage in my family as well as educational as we as kids could make the decision whether we wanted to hunt or not. Never was forced on us.

I do believe that if guns are open in our society that safety lessons and respect should be taught. It could very well help the next generations and how they treat firearms and understand the consequences of the harm they can do.

Did the guy from the UK ever figure out how to buy his gun?
He sort of left everyone hanging.

funny thing is, i do work, at more than one location, where police sheperds are kept by police at home. i enter the back yards with an open gun, of sorts, and they are as docile as can be. on the other hand, i go into the hood, and have been lucky to escape with my life. my brother had his head bitten open by one crashing through the front door as a paperboy, might have been the glass that split his head.
