The Hurt Locker actually won.

No one can diss the Academy anymore. I loved Avatar, but the Hurt Locker deserved the award.

Morning Bris: I rented the Hurt Locker Saturday, and thought the story and performances were exceptional. Also, happy to see the first women accept an Oscar for Directing.

It was historic, and everyone said it was too much of a downer for the Academy. Shows that you never know, right?

I'm glad 'The Hurt Locker' won. I really appreciated the fact they opened up the category to include more deserving films. 'District 9' was one of the best of the year. I knew it didn't have a chance at winning, but the nomination will help Neill Blomkamp finance more films & get his vision out there to a greater audience.

I tried to tell my mother about the movie, but she got pissed because she was focused on her hair.

She said dead babies are depressing and thinking about them will ruin my health.

Out of all the movies nominated, I only saw Avatar and The Hurt Locker. My wife might have seen one more. We were both glad and shocked she won. The only thing about HL was that I felt that it could have been a lot better and did not seem very real to me. Of course, it's a movie.

It was directionally unique, which is quite a feat. I mean, that's what stood out to me, anyway.

My dvr cut off right at 8:30, so I missed the Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Film categories. Bummer.

I was pleased with the winners, though.

I agree, there are no lone wolfs in an environment like that. Demolition removal is a total team effort. But then that wouldn't make for a good story line. Look past that and I thought it was a very well done film. Jeremy Renner is from my neck of the woods. He grew up in Modesto (Scott and Lacy Peterson fame), so I was glad to see the film win.

The acting was superb. No doubt.

The direction was innovative. But, yeah, give all the credit to the dudes, dude.

You wanna argue? The chick was lucky enough to marry Cameron and got luckier still. OK. Is that better?

Did anybody notice that Farrah Fawcett was left out of the Memorandom Montage. That just ain't right.

I heard that too! They must have spaced out because she was a brilliant actress in the "Burning Bed".

Bea Arthur also. WTF was that about? And they remembered that famous movie actor, Michael Jackson?

That was unconscionable. To forget Farrah Fawcett is beyond clueless. And Bea Arthur. And Henry Gibson.

I wonder if they can somehow make up for it - maybe by announcing during the same "who died this last year" segment at the Academy Awards next year that they made the mistake of omitting those three celebrities.

I've seen both Hurt Locker and Avatar, and I have to say about the Oscar choices: Seriously? I mean, don't get me wrong. Hurt Locker was a good film. But the best film of the year? Come on.

And Sandra Bullock is a good actress. A solid, serviceable, competent actress who's had her moments of greatness, yes. And to be fair, I have not yet seen the movie she won for. But I've read the reviews, and know it's a 'good' movie - not great, and Bullock's role surely wasn't any role of a lifetime.

I've seen Avatar three times; I love it. It was visually astounding. I found the story a little stale, though.

Hurt Locker was just different. I found it inventive.

I'm glad Jeff Bridges won. I love all those Bridges dudes.

I felt the same way about Meryl Streep being nominated, she is by far one of my favorite actresses, ever. But Julia & Julie, Oscar worthy, no.

I'm really happy about the Bigelow win--she directed one of my all time favorite fantasy films: "Strange Days," I also liked Blue Steel, and even Point Break. There is an '80's Vampire film of hers, Near Dark, that I really want to see.

The Academy Awards is the same thing as The Oscars. Oscar is the little statue that the Academy gives out. It's exclusively for films.

The Grammies (fun etymological fact: originally the Gramophone Awards) is for music.

Emmy Awards are for television, which is why the Academy said that Farrah ought to be honored at the Emmys rather than the Oscars.
