So I just moved to Mexico and am having trouble finding Vic's around here. I live about 2 hours from Guadalajara and have been to a dozen pharmacies and several doctors and they always try and give me a prescription for some OTC stuff. I am not worried about transporting it over the border as I live here now. Just looking for some help or ideas! Thanks.

Well I emailed a few places and starting conversing with them but all of a sudden they stop emailing me. Am I doing something wrong? Help would be appreciated!

My only advice is find a DR and stay with them and hopefully the will begin to prescribe based on history.

Well I have had lucking finding Codeine. I simply order it from the pharmacy down the street. It's about $32 bucks for a bottle of 30 pills. They don't ask for a prescription. She said she can really order anything I like but I can't seem to find the mexican name for vicodin here. Anyone know? Thanks!

"Vicodin" is brand name for a compound of Hydrocodone + Tylenol. So, when you are asking about vicodin, I'm assuming you're really looking for hydrocodone vs codeine! I'm sorry to say, but the US produces 100% of raw hydrocodone (Classified as Schedule II without any compound) and the US consumes 99% of it by making vicodin (or generics). My understanding is that Mexico does not import any hydrocodone, so any "vicodin" you are buying is most likely illegally coming from the US somehow.

Read up on this article published by the Justice Department.

www.justice.gov/dea/concern/hydrocodone_factsheet.doc

Here's some quotes from it...

Hydrocodone in an analgesic and antitussive agent structurally similar to codeine. When the CSA was enacted in 1971, hydrocodone substance was placed in schedule II. Products containing hydrocodone in specified amounts and in combination with other active ingredients were placed in schedules III and V. At that time, hydrocodone was primarily utilized as a cough suppressant with limited prescriptions. Today, hydrocodone products are increasingly utilized for pain management and are the most frequently dispensed opioid pharmaceuticals in the United States.

According to the 2005 International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) Report, the United States manufactures nearly 100% of the total hydrocodone manufactured worldwide. It also constitutes 99% of the world consumption of hydrocodone.

That was true five years ago. However, there are currently pharmaceutical companies in other countries, including Mexico, that are manufacturing and distributing this drug.
In Mexico, I believe it is hidrocodona w/ paracetamol made by a company in Guadalajara.
There are apparently very restrictive requirements imposed by the Mexican health agencies on which doctors are able to prescribe it and under what conditions.

The condition is one of green. They see green and they can prescribe.

OldandWarn, it sucks that all we think about Mexico it is our personal prescription-drug feeding ground. Most of the doctors who can legitemately prescribe strong opiates you cannot go down and pay them $100 to get a script.

However, how would I know... I just know what I read as I've never actually been there!

It would appear we all take our chances south of the border....I had an interesting conversation w/someone about Cesar (WorldPharmacy). I heard a couple of orders came on time as promised but the meds were damaged/crushed. The packaging was "hurriedly" done hence, broken meds. Anyway, it was explained to him without a request for replacement. His response was: not his problem, complain to UPS. He also added he does not or ever will offer samples. Also he could careless if they ever ordered from him again. WTF???? Wow. This came about as I was interested in ordering but scams seem to be the norm instead of a rarity...go figure!!! LOL!!!!!

Well I have some updated information for you all. Hydrocodone is not manufactured in Mexico. It only exists if imported from elsewhere illegally.

However Oxycodone is manufactured in Guadalajara. The name of the medicine is Plexicodim. It contains 5 mg of oxycontin and paracetamol. It is really hard to obtain though and is even harder to find in any pharmacy.

I just got back from Puerto Vallarta a few hours ago and was able to find Valium and Xanax. I purchased some while there without a prescription and all went well. Also had a great vacation at that!

I was down in Mexico a few years ago and went to a pharmacy and bought vicodin. I took empty pill bottles with me so when I flew back I wouldn't have a problem and I didn't. Although I don't know what was in them but they made me really sick so I am kind of scared now. I had also bought xanax but they seemed normal

First let me clarify re my last post here, consensus is C is fine-no worries. Second, I was in Mexico several years ago. I was in San Diego and walked across the border into Tijuana. For those who have never been, they have/had(?) a section of town which was one pharmacy after another. I was curious and walked into one. I asked for a product, they turned around and pulled open a small slender drawer and put 4 pills in a small baggie. I paid my $$ and left. THEY WERE GARBAGE!!!! I laugh as to be honest, the whole set up is plain silly. The vendors actually stand at the door and as you walk by, they offer. LOL!!! I learned my lesson. Lucky it wasn't very many pesos I lost : )

You need to have 25 post to PM, and its probably not a good idea to give out your personal email address on the board, just for privacy reasons. Just an FYI....
