"Vicodin" is brand name for a compound of Hydrocodone + Tylenol. So, when you are asking about vicodin, I'm assuming you're really looking for hydrocodone vs codeine! I'm sorry to say, but the US produces 100% of raw hydrocodone (Classified as Schedule II without any compound) and the US consumes 99% of it by making vicodin (or generics). My understanding is that Mexico does not import any hydrocodone, so any "vicodin" you are buying is most likely illegally coming from the US somehow. Read up on this article published by the Justice Department. www.justice.gov/dea/concern/hydrocodone_factsheet.docHere's some quotes from it... Hydrocodone in an analgesic and antitussive agent structurally similar to codeine. When the CSA was enacted in 1971, hydrocodone substance was placed in schedule II. Products containing hydrocodone in specified amounts and in combination with other active ingredients were placed in schedules III and V. At that time, hydrocodone was primarily utilized as a cough suppressant with limited prescriptions. Today, hydrocodone products are increasingly utilized for pain management and are the most frequently dispensed opioid pharmaceuticals in the United States. According to the 2005 International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) Report, the United States manufactures nearly 100% of the total hydrocodone manufactured worldwide. It also constitutes 99% of the world consumption of hydrocodone.
